And again the others cheer: In the last test, state league team Dingolfing was happy about a 4:3 in Erding.

False start for the Erding Gladiators in the new Bayernliga season.

At VfE Ulm/Neu-Ulm, coach Andy Becher's team suffered an absolutely avoidable 2:4 defeat (0:0, 0:1, 2:3).

Ulm/Erding – "In the end we lost the game up to the 50th minute due to unnecessary penalties and minor lack of discipline," summed up Erding's coach at the press conference.

Already on Friday, the mood among those responsible for the Gladiators was anything but good.

The last test match against the state league team EV Dingolfing was lost 3:4 (1:1, 1:0, 1:3).

Ryan Murphy scored for Erding to make it 1-1, Ryan Henke to make it 2-1 and Roni Rukajärvi to make it 3-2.

Dingolfing turned the game around with goals in the 55th and 58th minute.

But as we all know, a botched dress rehearsal is followed by a successful premiere – normally.

"The Ulm team from last year can no longer be compared to the current one," said Gladiators trainer Becher before the game.

The Devils were the whipping boys of the league.

The coach announced: "They'll come like the fire brigade." And he was right, because the first few minutes belonged to the Devils.

Martin Podesva failed in a solo attempt by Christoph Schedlbauer (4th), and the strong Erdinger goalkeeper saved just a few seconds later with a spectacular dive from Felix Anwander, who was ready to score.

From the middle of the third, the Gladiators were at eye level and had their own chances, but Florian Zimmermann (11th) and Erik Modlmayr (14th) couldn't get past David Heckenberger, who was also holding very well.

In the second period, Erdinger had the most chances.

But Heckenberger could not be beaten either by Leon Abkampfer (24') or by Basti Cramer, who shot freely (31').

A little later, the hosts were superior and Matteo Miller promptly chased the puck into the net to make it 1-0 (37th).

In the third third, Erding's coach rearranged his attack lines a bit.

The pressure from the Gladiators increased a little, but the Devils kept putting dangerous pinpricks.

While Erding's keeper Schedlbauer was able to prevent the second Ulm goal against Synek (46'), he was powerless against Synek's outnumbered shot a minute later.

A little later he made the next brilliant save against Synek (50th) - and then the game seemed to tip over.

After great preliminary work by Philipp Michl, Elias Maier reduced the lead to 1:2 (53rd minute), and four minutes later Modlmayr chased the puck into the net after a Maier pass to make it 2:2.

"We came back and had the momentum on our side," said Becher.

"After that we weren't that clever, and a stupid substitution mistake made it 3-2.

Only 64 seconds after the equalizer, the Devils exploited the aforementioned Erdinger error and, with a penalty against the Gladiators, scored 3:2 through Stefan Rodrigues.

And when the Erdingers took the goalkeeper off the ice, Rodrigues made it 4-2 58 seconds later.

"We have to get over this bitter pill first," said a visibly dejected Erding coach in conclusion and agreed with his coaching colleague Martin Jainz, who had said: "You could see that the level in the league is getting higher and higher."
