Israel's judo teams held their first training session this morning (Tuesday) in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, before the World Championships that will open this Thursday.
In the conference hall where the team is staying, mattresses were spread on the floor, as each country has to register in advance for the time it wants to train.
The problem started when many national teams started gathering there, including Japan's huge delegation of 60 athletes and staff members.
During the training, the chairman of the union Moshe Ponti came to watch him and see the atmosphere in the team, and to give them the last shot of encouragement before the competition. At the end, everyone gathered for a united group photo, from which the highest ranked men who will land in Tashkent only on Thursday were missing, including Peter Plech Yak.
"We returned from a very long training camp and used the period in the best way, when they are in good shape and ready for the world championship," said the coach of the men's team, Oren Samadja.
"We have 3 young athletes. We try to build one athlete for each weight, and start the race at the end of which the best will reach the Olympics."
The men's team has not been able to bring important medals in recent times, what will happen this time?
"We started the year at the Paris tournament, without many views, but already there there were athletes on the podium and after that at the Tel Aviv Grand Slam. They are in good shape. We have no competition with the women and what they are doing there is amazing, but we will also slowly catch up and get to where we are want".
"We want to reach the Olympics and explode as we know, when on the way there are 2 more world and European championships and the Grand Slam and the Masters in Israel, so we will build the best squad there is."
On Wednesday, when the Yom Kippur fast breaks, the draw for the competition will take place, while on Thursday, the championship will open in the Humo Hall, which is used daily for skating and hockey games, with a weight category of 48 kg for girls and 60 kg for boys.
