He was the dean of French internationals, he who honored 26 caps between 1953 and 1959. He notably played two World Cups with the Blues, in 1954 and 1958, where the Blues of Raymond Kopa and Just Fontaine finished 3rd.

Remetter was dubbed the 'genius madman' after he moved from striker to goalkeeper when playing for youth teams at Strasbourg.
Born in this same city, he left the Alsatian club in 1949, at the age of 21, before returning in 1960, and winning a League Cup there for his last season at Racing, in 1964.
Remetter was also world military champion with France in 1947. He ended his career at the more modest ASPV Strasbourg club in 1968, after spells in Grenoble and Limoges.
