The British "Times" reported tonight (Tuesday) that Ukraine will join Spain and Portugal's hosting bid for the World Cup games to be held in eight years.
President Volodymyr Zelensky gave the green light to the move and stands behind its promotion, with the heads of the associations of Spain and Portugal scheduled to officially announce it at a press conference to be held at the UEFA offices tomorrow. For them, the proposal promotes the idea that soccer can restore hope and peace to the world.
Such hosting of course requires significant security guarantees, something that the state cannot provide at the moment, this is in light of the fact that the fighting against Russia continues, but the hope is that by 2030 the state will have already completed its rehabilitation and reconstruction.
This move should be a knockout in the battle to host the 2030 World Cup and allow the Spanish-Portuguese proposal to prevail over any other proposal, and above all to neutralize the possibility that Saudi Arabia will host together with Egypt and Greece.
UEFA is convinced that the 2030 World Cup must be held in Europe, after Qatar accepted the 2022 hosting, while the 2026 World Cup will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
