After two bankruptcies in the previous Champions League season, RB Leipzig showed a strong performance against Celtic Glasgow. Despite the 3-1 victory, the mood is clouded, keeper Peter Gulásci will probably be out longer.

RB Leipzig remains in the race for the round of 16 in the Champions League with a 3-1 (1-0) win over Celtic.

Attackers Christopher Nkunku (27th minute) and André Silva (64th/74th) scored the goals for Leipzig's hitherto pointless team.

Jota equalized for the guests from Glasgow (47).

In the second early game on Wednesday evening, RB Salzburg won 1-0 (0-0) against Dinamo Zagreb.

The game started badly from Leipzig's point of view.

After a bad pass of his own, RB keeper Peter Gulásci twisted his knee, was treated for a long time and then carried off (13th).

The 31-year-old Janis Blaswich made his Champions League debut for him.

Shortly thereafter, Nkunku scored the supposed lead for the enthusiastic Leipzig team with a lob – but according to the video images the goal was withdrawn due to a narrow offside position (19th).

Leipzig remained the stronger team, after a pass from André Silva Nkunku was not offside and scored the lead from a tight angle (27th).

Celtic became dangerous mainly through counterattacks - and struck shortly after the half-time break.

After losing the ball in the Leipzig offensive, the Scots switched quickly, in the end Jota only had to push in (47th).

After that, Leipzig struggled for a long time before Timo Werner and Dominik Szoboszlai quickly combined, but Szoboszlai only hit the post (58th).

Nkunku shines against Celtic

After the post shot, however, Leipzig was better in the game again.

First, a goal by Szoboszlai was disallowed because Silva was offside and visitor keeper Joe Hart had blocked his sight (63').

The goal came just a few seconds later.

After a bad pass from Hart to Szoboszlai, the Hungarian passed to Silva, who put the ball in safely (64').

Celtic then tried a lot, but Leipzig remained more dangerous with their creative offensive players.

The third goal for Leipzig was scored by Silva after a remarkable preliminary work by the outstanding Nkunku, who passed on a high diagonal pass directly, which made it easy for his strike partner (77th).

With the win, Leipzig now has three points, Celtic have one.

The two opponents in Group F Real Madrid (6 points) and Shakhtar Donetsk (4) will play against each other later in the evening.
