Guessing about biathlete Dmitry Malyshko: Russia's national coach hopes for the return of the seven-time World Cup winner, but announces the end of his career.
The athlete himself denied.
St. Petersburg/Munich - For years, Dmitry Malyshko was an integral part of Russia's biathlon selection.
But recently the failed Olympic champion in Sochi 2014 (withdrawn after winning the relay because of doping) has made itself rare: the last time the ski hunter was in his country's squad was in the 2020/21 World Cup season.

Coach announces end of career
At home in Russia there is a lot of guesswork about the whereabouts of the long-standing biathlon hope: Coach Alexander Kasperovich said of the 35-year-old that he had retired and would no longer race.
"We hoped that he would come back and continue to perform, but we don't see that he's doing anything: neither in training nor in competition, so we're looking at things realistically," said the man, who represented Bulgaria after a two-year stint will be active again in the Russian coaching staff in the future.
In addition, 62-year-old Kasperovich lets it be known that biathlete Malyshko "is ready", the sports management does not know anything about his fate and it is necessary to look at things "realistically".
A few months ago, the Russian biathlon scene was confronted with a tragic event:

It seems doubtful whether biathlete Malyshko will show up again to prepare for his country selection for the upcoming World Cup season.
Due to the denial of the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Sochi, the silver medal in the relay at the Biathlon World Championships is the greatest sporting triumph in his career in addition to the World Cup successes.
