Maccabi Tel Aviv went through a serious revolution in the summer when they replaced almost all of the team's players, returning Oded Ketch to the position of coach after 15 years, all with the aim of at least returning to the Euroleague playoff stage, about six months after being kicked out by Real Madrid.
Now the yellows host Zalgiris in the opening round of the European plant.
Ketch left Jake Cohen and Petah Ziv out of the squad, but his five included newcomers Alex Poithers, Josh Niebo, Wayne Baldwin and especially Lorenzo Brown, who led the Spanish team to the EuroBasket European Championship.
The Yellows have beaten Zalgiris in all of the last four meetings and have a wonderful streak of not losing a home game in the opening round of the Euroleague since the defeat to Panathinaikos in September 1998.
On the other hand, the interesting player on the side of Zalgiris is Kenan Evans, former Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Standing on the lines for the first time in a Euroleague game is the one who was a member of the Lithuanian national team for the past two years, Kazis Maksavitis, who until last summer coached Russian Prem, is considered one of the rising forces in Lithuanian basketball and will now try to lead Zalgiris to success.
