Bad news for FC Bayern Munich and the German women's national soccer team.

Top performer Giulia Gwinn apparently has a cruciate ligament tear.

Munich/Dresden – She is perhaps the biggest star in Germany's soccer women.

We are talking about Giulia Gwinn from FC Bayern Munich.

With the female DFB team, the 23-year-old took second place in the summer at the 2022 European Championship for women.

Gwinn, who comes from Ailingen near Friedsrichshafen on Lake Constance, was a guarantee for the great success in Great Britain.

So the Swabian played almost every game in defense over the full distance.

Only in the last preliminary round match against Finland (3-0) was she substituted at half-time.

In the semifinals against France (2:1) she did just as well as in the lost final against hosts England (1:2 aet).

This Friday (October 7th) she was supposed to face the French again with the German women's soccer team in Dresden (8.30 p.m.).

But then national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg announced the bad news this Thursday, which should also cause disillusionment on Säbener Straße in Munich.

Because: Gwinn apparently suffered a cruciate ligament tear in training with the German Football Association (DFB).

According to the national coach, this is even serious.

"We had the training accident, which spoils the mood and the week a bit because we know that it is probably a cruciate ligament tear or a serious injury," explained Voss-Tecklenburg at the press conference.

Because of Gwinn's injury, Voss-Tecklenburg was "not really looking forward to the game in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium," said the 54-year-old.

It doesn't leave her "indifferent if a national player gets injured, maybe with a certain consequence".

Especially not when it comes to a top performer.

On Tuesday (October 4th) Gwinn had posted an expectant photo of himself in the DFB jersey on Instagram and wrote: "Back with the national team!" In German: "Back in the national team!" Bayern had their injury -Player not yet commented on social media as of Thursday evening.

The club did not have an exact diagnosis up to this point either.
