After VfB Stuttgart lost 1-0 at home to 1. FC Union Berlin, things are getting tight for Pellegrino Matarazzo.
Sports director Sven Mislintat no longer wants to give his coach a job guarantee.
Stuttgart - Pellegrino Matarazzo looked thoughtful and stricken when he answered journalists' questions after his VfB Stuttgart lost 1-0 to 1. FC Union Berlin.
Will the coach still be on the bench when the Swabians welcome VfL Bochum to the basement duel in the Mercedes-Benz Arena next Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky)?
He doesn't seem to believe in it anymore.
At least he was distant at the press conference after the bitter defeat against Union and no longer spoke of "we", but instead of "the team".
In detail, he said: "I am very optimistic that the team can and will win the game against Bochum, regardless of who sits on the bench."
VfB Stuttgart: The words of the coach Pellegrino Matarazzo sounded like farewell
When
asked by BW24
whether these were his parting words as a VfB coach, he replied: "I meant that it's not about me.
I'm not worried about my future.
The most important thing for me is that this team is successful.
That's my focus.
I wholeheartedly wish her every success because I think they are all great guys, also as people.”
Meanwhile, Sven Mislintat avoided backing Matarazzo with a clear commitment.
First he said: "Rino is someone who enjoys a high level of trust with us and had our full support even in difficult phases", before adding: "The problem we have is a discrepancy between performance and result - and not just that since today.
We'll have to evaluate that at some point."

VfB sports director Sven Mislintat does not give Matarazzo a job guarantee
Accordingly, Mislintat no longer wanted to give the coach a job guarantee for this season.
When asked by BW24
, he said
: "Basically, it's not just my decision, there are several heads involved.
And secondly, we have to be realistic.
Well, you know I love Rino and the trust and backing is there when he gets the games, also 100 percent, but in the end we also have to deliver.
That's just the way it is.
And what that means, I can't say right now."
Matarazzo recently celebrated his 1,000-day anniversary as head coach of VfB Stuttgart.
Now it seems his tenure is coming to an end.
