Youth League: stoppage for young PSG beaten 3-2 by Benfica

2022-10-11T14:17:04.977Z

PSG Under-19s conceded their first Youth League defeat of the season on Tuesday against a stronger Benfica side.

Stoppage for the young people of PSG.

After having chained three successes in three meetings, the young people of the Parisian team experienced their first defeat this Tuesday afternoon at the Camp des Loges against Benfica (3-2).

In a meeting generally dominated by the Portuguese, Ayman Kari's teammates logically folded and showed their limits against a much more experienced team.

PSG, still leader of its group, will still have to wait before validating its ticket for the next round.

What you must remember

It was a PSG deprived of three of its executives who presented themselves against Benfica this Tuesday afternoon at the Camp des Loges.

El Chadaille Bitshiabu, Ismaël Gharbi and Warren Zaire-Emery being made available to the first team, Zoumana Camara fielded a team almost similar to the one that won in Lisbon last week (1-0).

And after finishing their meeting in style on the Portuguese lawn, the young Parisians started very strong this time with the early opener of the irremovable Ilyes Housni from the 2nd minute of play.

On a good recovery from Ayman Kari 30m from the opposing goals, Noha Lemina is found on his right side and can cross towards Ilyes Housni who plays the goalkeeper to score his 5th goal of the season in the Youth League.

Nuno Mendes and Presnel Kimpembe, injured and present in the stands on Tuesday, must have appreciated the striker's new brilliance.

Still, this successful start did not find its extension and the young people of Benfica, holders of the title, quickly took things in hand and dominated the debates.

After a few rare well-managed incursions by defender Nehemiah Fernandez-Veliz, the Parisian rearguard cracked after a quarter of an hour of play. On a loss of ball from captain Younes El Hannach, the tall and sturdy Semedo equalized with a header powerful who lobes Louis Mouquet (14th).

The young Parisian goalkeeper was not always reassuring in his kicking game and showed a certain feverishness which was reminiscent of a certain Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Benfica, well helped by five elements who are used to playing in the second division with the B team, continued to put pressure.

Still as insistent on Mouquet's goal, they end up making the break in the 39th minute.

Following a loss of the ball by Tryphose Queyrell Tchicamboud, Ferreira recovers and serves Moreira in the area who deceives Mouquet in two stages.

The end of the first period will turn into a nightmare for the players of Zoumana Camara with a penalty conceded in added time after a slight collision by Lamy on Hugo Felix.

Semedo is responsible for transforming and pushing the Parisians (45th + 1) well below their opponent of the day.

Returning with much better intentions, the PSG players could have changed the face of the game from the start of the second period, still by Ilyes Housni.

But he misses his face-to-face in front of André Gomes (49th).

He made up for it at the end of the game with a new goal scored very subtly (85th).

The Parisians could have forced the decision at the very end of the match after besieging the Lisbon goal, but Benfica held on and pocketed a victory that kept them alive.

The player: Ilyes Housni

He had, however, opened the scoring.

Well served by Noha Lemina before eliminating the opposing goalkeeper, Ilyes Housni had put Paris on the right track, from the 3rd minute, thanks to his fifth goal in the competition.

The 17-year-old Parisian striker then doubled the lead late in the game.

He has 15 goals in 13 games in all competitions.

As often, he put a lot of energy on the attacking front.

Insufficient this time to give victory to his people.

The number: 1

After winning against Juventus Turin (5-3), Maccabi Haifa (5-0) and Benfica, PSG conceded their first defeat of the season in the Youth League.

This setback does not call into question a possible qualification which could be won in fifteen days at home against the Israeli club.
