FC Bayern is in the middle of the striker crisis.
Veteran Thomas Müller is supposed to help out – it is still unclear whether the experiment will work.
Munich – Thomas Müller actually came to advertise a start-up that produces vegan food – because he works there as an investor.
But how could it be otherwise, in the interview with the
Süddeutsche Zeitung
, it quickly comes back to the dominant topic of this season: FC Bayern is currently playing without a classic centre-forward – can that work?
Müller had made it clear more than once that the discussions about the missing Robert Lewandowski annoyed him.

Of course, Müller is not surprised by the topic.
“This discussion was definitely programmed.
We lost the most successful striker in Bundesliga history after Gerd Müller,” Müller admits in an interview.
The Weilheimer also makes it clear that FC Bayern was limited in its selection: "Finding a replacement was certainly also a market issue." It is now also interesting for the Bayern squad to take part in this "Bavarian experiment". which is played with many variable players up front and not with a classic nine.
Müller is now faced with completely new challenges.
Does he have to take on a role from now on that might not suit him so much?
"For me, too, an adjustment process is currently taking place, because we score different goals than before.
It can now also happen more often that I'm the point of contact, like recently against Barcelona, who has to go into a header duel, who has to see that we can get a second ball," he explains.
Müller is open to new ideas
How comfortable does Müller feel in this new role?
He himself says: "Basically, I'm open to everything that brings success to the team, even if it's new to me." He couldn't take part in the last two matches due to his corona disease - his assignment against Viktoria Pilsen is also not sure yet.
One thing is clear: So far, the record champions' results have left a lot to be desired, at least in the league.
The impression remains of a team that has to reposition itself and find itself.
The latest bad news for the already badly thinned team: Manuel Neuer is also currently not ready for action.
The experiment enters the next round this Wednesday: FC Bayern plays Viktoria Pilsen in the Champions League.
