Update from October 13, 10:10 a.m .:

Antonio Rüdiger had to pay dearly for his late equalizer in the Champions League for Real Madrid against Donetsk.

Covered in blood, the German national player had to be substituted and sewn up with 20 stitches.

The full extent of the injury is now visible in a Twitter video from Royal.

Rüdiger is escorted into the dressing room by the supervisors, he holds a towel to his head to stop the bleeding.

"You have to press," is recommended to him from all sides.

Rüdiger moans and groans in pain during the treatment in the dressing room.

Then David Alaba comes in to check on his teammate.

"It's fine, it's just the head.

I don't have a headache,” Rüdiger gives the all-clear.

Alaba gives him a kiss on the forehead to encourage him.

Toni Kroos also asked about Rüdiger, whom he already knew from the German national team, and lovingly patted his thigh.

A short time later, he turns away with a distorted face, but also with a smile, and sits on the cabin bench with Alaba while Rüdiger is being stitched up by the doctors.

Marca reported that Rüdiger can no longer open his completely swollen eye.

Rudiger should be sure of the love and admiration of Real fans.

Los Blancos fans are reminded of the late President Santiago Bernabéu's quote: "Real Madrid's jersey is white.

It can be stained with mud, sweat and even blood, but never with shame. ”Real now want to have it checked whether the iron-hard Berliner can wear a face mask in the Clásico on Sunday against Barcelona (4:15 p.m.).

A supervisor pressed a cloth on Rüdiger's forehead to stop the heavy bleeding.

What happened?

After a long cross from former world champion Toni Kroos, Rüdiger, who had moved up, clashed with Donetsk keeper Anatolij Trubin when he scored a header.

Their heads banged violently, both players seemed dazed at first.

While Rüdiger got back on his feet relatively quickly, Trubin was treated lying on the grass for minutes.

Antonio Rüdiger: Real star suffers brutal lacerations in the Champions League

Real coach Carlo Ancelotti revealed afterwards that Rüdiger's injury was a "rather long" laceration.

"He wanted to get back on the pitch, but then he realized he was injured," said the Italian, who gave the all-clear: "I think it's nothing serious." "I've seen more beautiful pictures in my life," he said, "it's a lot of blood.

I hope he comes back soon.”

At least Rüdiger's commitment was worth it: The defending champions qualified early for the round of 16 of the premier class thanks to the late equalizer and avoided an embarrassing defeat shortly before the important Clásico on Sunday at home to arch-rivals FC Barcelona.
