Manchester United football club striker Mason Greenwood was charged on Saturday with attempted rape and intentional assault, British prosecutors said.

Greenwood, a former England footballing hopeful, was arrested in late January after images and videos were posted on social media showing a young woman with a bloody face and bruises on her body, along with the words "

".
