The NBA management announced today (Saturday) that former basketball player Dikamba Mutombo is suffering from a brain tumor and is undergoing treatment.
"He is receiving the best treatment available, from a combination of several specialists in Atlanta," the league's announcement reads, "He is showing a positive spirit when the treatments begin. Dicamba and his family request that their privacy be respected during this time, so that they can focus on the recovery process."

Mutombo played 18 seasons in the NBA, and is a member of the World Basketball Hall of Fame.
He ranks second in all-time blocks, and his resume includes eight All-Star appearances, four Defensive Player of the Season selections, and two clubs that retired his jersey.
Standing 218 centimeters tall, he is considered one of the greatest guards in the history of the game of basketball, and his finger lao after a block has become legendary.
Mutombo was born in the Congo, and became a trailblazer for African basketball players in the United States, and the very fact that some of the main players in the league today come from the black continent - including Joel Embiid, Ibaka and Siakam - is certainly credited to him as well. He speaks nine languages, and recently even visited Israel. To Mutombo Six children, four of whom are adopted, and he is known for his humanitarian and philanthropic activities for the community in his homeland. "The Mutombo family is grateful for your support, blessings and prayers," the league said in a statement.
