Rins toasts Suzuki, Márquez returns to the podium and Bagnaia grabs the lead at the Australian GP

First victory for the Japanese brand in its farewell year after a duel between the two Spaniards and the Italian, world leader after the fall of Quartararo and the collapse of Espargaró

Àlex Rins wanted to say goodbye with a victory for the brand that bet on him in Moto GP and he achieved it after scoring a race of great merit and dueling with Marc Márquez and Pecco Bagnaia, new leader of the world championship, in an Australian GP frenetic.

The Suzuki rider lifted the Japanese to victory three races before the manufacturer's dismissal, which in May surprised the

paddock

and its own workers by announcing its hasty departure at the end of the course.

728 days later, as a father, he was able to celebrate and dedicate the success to little Lucas.

“We deserved it.

I dedicate it to all the workers of the team, the last one for Suzuki in Phillip Island was precious”, he exultantly declared after shouting the name of his son on the podium.

Behind him, the Honda flagship returned the brand with the golden wing to the podium, number 100 of his career in the premier class and 139 of his World Cup record, a figure that equals Ángel Nieto as the fifth rider with the most history podiums.

Beyond the numbers, the competitiveness of Cervera and his second place, fighting hand-to-hand with the best, confirmed that he is back.

Whether or not he is the same after his fourth operation on the humerus that has bothered him for the last two years, his talent continues to attract all eyes.

“We have been there again, the show has been there.

I've had a great time and it's very special for me to be here”, he slipped with a smile from ear to ear, an unequivocal sign of his sensations on the bike.

The two Spanish riders got involved in the fight for the world championship, tight as ever and with a new draft twist after the race on the Australian track.

Pecco Bagnaia settled for third place knowing that Fabio Quartararo, the reigning champion, had crashed on lap 11. A victim of nerves and haste after falling from fifth to twentieth place due to braking in fourth turn, the Frenchman desperately tried to come back and ended up in the gravel.

"It's my mistake, but the problems I'm having with the bike don't help me either," said the Yamaha benchmark, who in the last eight races has awarded 103 points to the Turinese.

Already as leader of the contest, the prop from Borgo Panigale commented on his approach to the race: “I wanted to win, but I didn't want to risk and do something stupid.

The 25-year-old driver is right, who after clinging to the podium will arrive at the Malaysian GP with mathematical options for the title despite having crashed five times this season.

After Quartararo's zero and Aleix Espargaró's ninth place, disappointed and angry at "letting the world championship slip away" with Aprilia, the Italian enjoys a 14-point margin at the top of the standings.

The one from Granollers, 27 points off the lead, will need a miracle to become champion.

“When the bike doesn't go fast and it doesn't work, it's annoying,” he lamented, complaining about traction problems and pointing out another set-up error by Noale's engineers.

Bagnaia could enter motorcycling history with a victory and the reigning champion off the podium next Sunday at Sepang, a circuit where he already won his Moto2 title in 2018.

15 years later, a new drivers' title, the one that lasts in memory, is within reach for Ducati.

Despite their dominance in teams and constructors, the Bologna squad has lacked fitting the pieces and some luck so far to finish the job.

Behind, after an anthological and very tight race, Marco Bezzecchi confirmed his rookie of the year title with a fourth place followed by four other machines from Borgo Panigale.

Jorge Martín, who started in

pole position

, suffered a low in the second stage of the race after having a nice fight with the front group and finished seventh.

Álex Márquez also rode in that position, who made a massive mistake and took Jack Miller, one of the men in fashion, on lap 9.

Just married and in full streak of results, the Australian was suddenly on the ground at turn 4, the same one that the circuit has renamed with his last name to honor him.

Marc's brother, sanctioned for the action, must serve a long lap of sanction at the next appointment

As well as Rins' triumph which brought tears to the eyes of the Suzuki team, the news was also relatively positive on the other side of the garage.

Joan Mir, very happy for his return to competition after four races out due to injury, ended up frustrated by the tire pressure.

After going from 14th place to eighth on the first lap, he collapsed to 18th due to an error in inflating the tires with a faulty pressure gauge.

Likewise, he looked fit and was also able to celebrate the Moto3 title of his countryman Izan Guevara.
