Tölzer Löwen lose Oberland-Derby against SC Riessersee with 1:6
Bad Tölz – What was supposed to be a feast turned out to be a bitter disappointment: the Tölzer Löwen lost 6-1 on Sunday to arch-rival SC Riessersee.
Everything would have worked out so nicely for the sixth success in a row: a well-filled Tölzer ice rink, a significantly better start to the season and table position than the Garmisch-Partenkirchen team and a desire for more surprises.
But against Riessersee, the Tölzers got a big damper: Surprised by the individual strength of Robin Soudek or Sam Verelst, overwhelmed by the speed of the guests, accordingly too far away from the opponent and therefore too often in the penalty box.
And without any brilliant ideas of their own to get to grips with the strong Garmisch keeper Daniel Allavena.
"Bitter for us, but a deserved victory for Garmisch," said Löwen coach Ryan Foster.
Bitter pill instead of a feast
Almost everything worked for Garmisch, but not much for the Löwen: They received the first blow against their own motivation after 23 seconds when Ryker Killins made it 1-0.
Oliver Ott and Alexander Fichtner missed the early equalizer, Dominik Gißibl also moved freely in front of the box.
Tölz pressed for the 1:1, but failed due to the strong Allavena.
It wasn't all that bad, says Foster, who knows his team's comeback qualities.
But the sticking point from his point of view was when the lions neither used their superiority nor any other chance to score, and instead conceded the second goal by Alexander Höller.
"After that we took stupid penalties, our manpower game and our powerplay weren't good," complained Foster.
And so Riessersee pulled away to 4:0,
when the Tölz keeper Enrico Salvarani first outnumbered a disc from Verelst slipped through the schooners and a little later the former lion Lubor Dibelka successfully completed a counterattack.
In between, Tyler Ward failed twice from a promising position.
"We ran out of breath a little," says Foster about the all-time high pace.
Only Fischhaber has experienced the derby
For example, Thomas Schmid was allowed to act alone in front of Salvarani, who was the winner this time.
But because the lions were always a skating step too late, they often only knew how to help themselves by taking illegal actions.
"It's a learning curve for this young team," Foster said.
"Especially a derby like this is difficult terrain." The only one who has ever played against Riessersee is Christoph Fischhaber.
But he didn't bring any noteworthy accents to the goal either.
Instead, Soudek made it 5-0 for the guests.
Tangible argument
The frustration erupted, to the delight of the 3,200 spectators, in a tangible argument between Alex Fichtner, Sebastian Cimmerman, Dillon Eichstadt and Thomas Schmid.
And the Löwen side were also happy about a goal from Tölz: Nick Huard duped Allavena with a pawn trick to make it 1:5 before Dibelka scored to make it 6:1.
First defeat - in the derby of all places
The first loss this season for the lions.
And of all things in the derby against the archrival.
Still, Foster isn't worried about getting his young squad back on track.
"We'll tick that off."
