There is a future.
A great achievement for the Greco-Roman wrestler Yitzhak (Malkamo) Patna, who won the bronze medal this evening (Wednesday) at the Under-23 World Championship held in Pontevedra, Spain.
The 19-year-old Patna, who competes in the weight category up to 60 kg, automatically advanced to the second round, where he successfully passed a Colombian opponent, but in the round of 16 he succumbed to Turkish Karim Kamel in a close fight after 5:4, when his opponent went on to win the gold medal.
Following this, the Israeli moved to Beit HaNichiumim, where in the first fight he was supposed to meet the Iranian Omid Hossein Armi, but he, as expected, did not show up for the fight, which gave Panta the technical victory, bringing him within one fight of a place on the podium.
This is not the first time that Iranian athletes have boycotted a meeting with Israeli athletes, following instructions they receive from the regime, when some of them, like the judoka Saeed Moulay, are forced to flee and represent another country, which will allow them to continue competing.
In the battle for the bronze, Panta, who immigrated to Israel in 2006 from Ethiopia, met the Georgian Irakli Dzmirashvili, where he achieved a victory of 7:11, and won the prestigious bronze medal.
For Penta, it has been a great year so far, after he won the bronze medal at the European under-20 championship in Italy in June and in March he finished seventh in the European under-23 championship. In the wrestling association, he is being considered as one of the candidates who can reach the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
