ESC Geretsried returned from the match at VfE Ulm/Neu-Ulm on Friday with a 3:4 defeat.
The River Rats felt disadvantaged by the referee in the final third.
Ulm/Geretsried – The Geretsried ice hockey team had to start the long journey home from Neu-Ulm yesterday evening with empty hands: The River Rats lost 3:4 (1:2, 2:0, 0:2) to the Devils in front of 404 spectators. .
"It's a shame, because we were absolutely equal," said coach Stefan Roth.
The guests, who started without Benedikt May and Josef Reiter, did better in the early stages than in the previous games: Marek Haloda scored the 1-0 lead in the first power play (2').
However, Martin Podesva immediately equalized (3rd minute) and the VfE scorer put the home side 2-1 ahead after 19 minutes.
The second section clearly belonged to the River Rats, who equalized through Ondrej Horvath (22nd) and took a 3-2 lead through Michael Harrer (23rd).
"However, we would have had to add a fourth goal in one or the other situation where we were in the majority," regretted the ESC coach.
In the final section, however, the hosts were again in control, who had meanwhile switched to two blocks.
When they scored by Marius Dörner (50th) and Dominik Synek (58th) to make it 4:3, they benefited from two power plays.
Roth: "Our penalties were questionable, but we simply should have acted smarter."
