Islam Makhachev, who is considered Khaviv's protégé, won the belt and was crowned world lightweight champion, after beating Charles Oliveira in the second round and doing so at the same weight where his hero, Nurmagomedov, won world fame.

Two years have passed since Nurmagomedov announced his retirement, but yesterday he was again seen rejoicing in the ring with the fighter he nurtured, officially becoming his successor.
Makhachev, Khaviv's close friend, was crowned by virtue of the victory as the Dagestani's successor, and symbolically Khaviv was the one who carried Makhachev on his shoulders.
