Good start for the new coaching team Felix Schütz and Ales Jirik.

Erding – With the new duo on the boards, supported by Bernhard Bittel, the Erding Gladiators scored five points over the weekend.

The 4:3 after extra time at EV Pegnitz was followed by a 3:1 against ESC Kempten.

The new Gladiators team boss came to the press conference with a little delay.

"It still has to get used to that, Felix isn't used to it yet," said spokesman David Whitney with a smile.

He took the opportunity to thank ex-coach Andy Becher.

"He lives in Türkheim.

It wasn't possible professionally given the distance," Whitney explained.

In addition, Becher had health problems: "That's why we agreed to end the matter.

We wish Andy all the best and hope to see each other again here in the stadium.”

Schütz said that he had been in contact with the club for a long time and that he should take on a position there.

The fact that he is now behind the gang came very suddenly.

Looking back on his first week of training, he initially limited himself to observing.

"As a player you think you're a good coach, but in the end it's not that easy," he admitted.

He was of the opinion that a calm coach might be better, "but maybe I was too calm at the beginning".

Finally, the team boss went into the distribution of tasks.

At the beginning of the week, Bernhard Bittel led the training.

"I've known Bernie for a long time - he knew me when I was very young," said Schütz.

And with a grin he added: "It took me a bit to get him down and make it clear to him that I'm not little Felix anymore." Now the responsibilities are clearly defined, he is the team boss, "Ales takes care of it around the forwards and Bernie around the defenders".

In any case, he was “totally enthusiastic” after the first week of training.

Looking back on Friday and the game in the open ice rink in Pegnitz, "that was something very special for me," said Schütz with a grin.

"We initially had problems in the fog." He understands his troops.

"They all go to work, and you notice a three-hour bus ride."

Sunday's home game "was tight from start to finish".

Like his Kempten colleague, he especially praised both goalkeepers.

Erding's keeper Thomas Hingel and his Kemptener held against David Blaschta outstandingly.

"I'm incredibly proud of the boys, they played great," Schütz summed it up.

"It was really fun." The 34-year-old has ruled out that he will soon be playing in a Gladiators jersey – at least for the time being.

"I can't imagine it," said Schütz with a smile.

"But I heard that the club has already applied for a license as a precaution."
