Champions League: Chelsea qualified, the incredible failure of Shakhtar, Juventus out, the summary of the evening

If PSG ensured its qualification for the round of 16, other contenders for the final victory had a more content Tuesday evening.

OK, PSG put on a show with their “MNM” against Maccabi Haifa on Tuesday evening in the Champions League (7-2).

But the first part of the fifth day of the group stage of the C1 also offered its share of twists, spectacular goals and qualified teams.

Here's what to remember from the evening.

Juventus prolific, but out

The Old Lady has completely missed out on her Champions League group.

If they scored three goals in Lisbon, the Turinese lost again (4-3) against the Portuguese, their fourth loss in five games in this Champions League group.

The Italians, finalists in 2015 and 2017, can still be returned to the Europa League, provided they finish third and ahead of Maccabi Haifa.

We will have to finish with a better goal average than the Israelis, who will play the Portuguese in a week, while Juventus will host PSG.

The Blues in eighth and first

Double blow for Chelsea.

The 2021 European champion won (2-1) and qualified on the lawn of Red Bull Salzburg at the end of the day, with in particular a very nice achievement from his German attacking midfielder Kai Havertz.

And in the evening, Graham Potter's men - six wins and three draws since his arrival in September - secured first place in the pool thanks to AC Milan's big victory (0-4) at Dinamo Zagreb.

The Londoners are three points clear of the Italians, but the latter have been beaten twice by the Blues and can no longer join them.

Milan was able to rely on its Portuguese Rafael Leao, who started from his half of the field to score the goal of the break, and on Olivier Giroud, scorer on penalty, to climb to second place in the pool before the final encounter.

The failure of the year for Shakhtar Donetsk

This is the kind of action that is more difficult to miss than to put in the bottom.

And yet, it is the unfortunate feat achieved by the young striker of Shakhtar Donetsk, Danylo Sikane.

The 21-year-old, who entered Celtic Glasgow during the match, missed a superb opportunity to give victory to his team (72nd).

Served after a tumble by Mikhaylo Moudric, Sikane completely lacks control of the left, letting the ball slip past the empty goal.

The draw of the Ukrainians in Scotland (1-1) does not change their chances of qualification.

Even if won, Donetsk would have been forced to beat Red Bull Leipzig within a week to reach the knockout stages.

The Germans signed a prestigious success by dominating an already qualified Real Madrid (3-2), with in particular a nice achievement by Frenchman Christopher Nkunku.

Leipzig can still even hope to steal first place in the group from the European champions, but the latter receive Glasgow to finish.

City and Haaland mute in Dortmund

They are guaranteed to finish first in their group, but remain on two games without a goal.

After their draw in Copenhagen two weeks ago, Pep Guardiola's Citizens were again held in check, this time by Borussia Dortmund.

Erling Haaland failed to repeat his Martian goal in the first leg against his former partners, and Riyad Mahrez missed a penalty.

Winners of Copenhagen (3-0), Sevilla can still hope to qualify.
