Washington's positive start to the season continues, and little by little Danny Avdia is also starting to gain credit and confidence.
The Wizards defeated Detroit tonight (between Tuesday and Wednesday) 99:120 and went 1:3 from the beginning of the season, with what was probably the best game of the Israeli forward among the four.
Avdia started as usual in the five of the Wizards, finishing the game with 9 points (3 of 6 from the field, 1 of 3 from the three, 2 of 2 from the penalty), 7 rebounds, two assists, two steals, a steal and a plus/minus index of +12 , and stood out in his good defense.
Also this time, as in the previous games in which he was placed in defense of the leading guards of the opposing team, Avdia received a challenging defensive task when he was paired with Cade Cunningham, the 1st pick in the 2021 draft, and did an impressive job that earned him compliments from both his coach Wes Anseld Jr. and Pistons coach Dwayne Casey.
Anseld Jr. even gave Abadia the "Protective Belt", which is given after each victory to the player who excelled on the tougher side of the court.
"I liked his physicality as a defender. I'm happy with where he is," said the coach.
"He does a better job of letting the game come to him. It's more difficult as a five player because last season from the bench the attack went through him more so he tries to feel the attack."
The Pistons coach added that "Abadiah did a great job on defense. Cade will have to get used to having the best guards sent to him."

The Wizards dominated the game from start to finish.
The first half ended with their slight lead, and no points from Avdia, who scored all 9 of his points after the break, and was a full partner in the Wizards' escape and the run that secured the victory.
Avdia, who excelled as mentioned in the defense, made a nice block on the rookie Jayden Ivy in the second quarter, and in the last quarter he scored an important three-pointer that increased the difference to 14, and finished with another big block, this time on Cunningham, in one of the moves that finally decided the game.
After that block, Wes Anseld Jr. seemed enthusiastic about Avdia's defense, praising him especially on the way down to timeout.
Offensively, the Wizards received a relatively quiet evening from Bradley Beal who finished with 13 points in 22 minutes, and benefited mainly from the good ability of Kyle Kuzma (25 and 6 rebounds), Kristaps Porzingis (20 and 7 rebounds) and Will Barton (16) who build himself as the senior replacement on the staff.

On the other side, the Pistons, who went down to a 3:1 balance, got 25 from Bojan Bogdanovic and 19 from Cunningham, with average percentages (7 of 19 from the field).
