Lorenzo Brown is probably in the best period of his career, but only a few months ago he had to face a great difficulty, when Spanish basketball was on fire following his quick citizenship ahead of the Eurobasket.
Many in the industry were shocked by his joining the team, even players in the Spanish team expressed distaste for the move, but everything was forgotten when Brown led the team to a surprising win in the European Championship.
Today, Sergio Scariolo, coach of the Spanish national team, can recall with a smile the reactions to the move.
"Excluding the political context surrounding his citizenship, Lorenzo suited us perfectly, both personally and professionally," Scariolo told the Turkish media today (Friday).
"To be honest, I didn't believe that his naturalization would create such a buzz, and become so controversial. There is legitimate criticism, but some of the criticism stemmed from complete ignorance. There was xenophobia involved, and inappropriate things were said, certainly not in a country like Spain that is known as one that knows how to accept Strangers in a beautiful way. In the end, today everyone understands that Lorenzo is not only a person of his caliber, but also one of the best guards in Europe."

Brown's start of the season at Maccabi Tel Aviv so far is a direct continuation of the dream summer he spent with the Spanish national team.
After five seasons in the Euroleague, he is averaging fantastic 15.6 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4 assists.
