Will Artyom Dolgofiat make history? The world championship in apparatus gymnastics is underway Israel today

2022-10-28T06:39:32.793Z

The Olympic champion can become the first Israeli to win gold in the Olympics, the European Championships and the World Championships • The task will not be easy, since quite a few young stars have risen to the top in the last year and he is also carrying a leg injury from which he has not yet fully recovered

To this day, Israel has three Olympic champions: the surfer Gal Friedman, the artistic gymnast Linoi Ashram and the apparatus gymnast Artyom Dolgopiat.

To date, none of them has managed to achieve the holy triangle and win gold in all three important events of the European Championships, the World Championships and of course the Olympic Games.

While Friedman and Ashram have already retired, the one who will try to do so in the coming week is Dolgopiat, who will participate in the world championships in Liverpool, England, where he will hope to be the highest on the podium in his strong floor exercise and do something that has not been done so far and mark another hook in his glorious career.

For Dolgopiat the task will not be easy, since quite a few young stars have risen to the top in the last year and he is also carrying a leg injury from which he has not yet fully recovered.

But the Israeli has the experience in these classes and more importantly, he has recently been working on a new exercise, while making adjustments to the new constitution and all the experts in the industry claim that if he does the exercise cleanly in the qualifiers and of course in the finals, there is no reason why he won't win the gold.

Dolgopiat, like Dolgopiat, remains humble as he is and with his feet on the ground: "The truth is that the feelings are not the best, but I'm trying to build a new exercise. I've now been in two different competitions, so far I don't feel 100 percent ready, but we continue to work hard to arrive as ready as possible for the championship."

The Olympic gold medalist added: "The new exercise I did at the European Championships was indeed enough for first place, but the World Championships is something completely different.

Of course I feel the pressure, but I try to think about it as little as possible."

To date, Dolgopiat has two silver medals at the World Championships (Montreal 2017 and Stuttgart 2019), along with 5 medals at the European Championships (2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze), and of course the Olympic gold in Tokyo two years ago.

The Israeli will open the championship on Monday with the qualifiers, when in addition to him, the bronze medalist from last year's world championship in vaulting Andrey Medvedev, Alex Miakinin, Ilya Liubimov, Uri Seidel, along with the coaches Sergey Weisburg and Andrey Gribnov, will also participate in the men's team.

Medvedev said on the eve of the championship: "There are very good feelings, I want first of all to come and enjoy myself and make a good result that will serve me further. Even though I suffered an injury, I am in excellent shape and I think I can make a better result than last year. First of all in the qualifiers, to reach the final and then from the final to be screwed in the first three".

The women's team, which will participate in the championship starting tomorrow (Saturday), will include the Olympic gymnast Lihya Raz, who surprised two years ago by winning the bronze medal on the floor at the European Championships held in Turkey, and Ofir Netzer.

"I'm very excited," said Raz.

"We worked hard, and I come to give my best. I feel I'm in good shape, I've been preparing for three weeks with my coach, we built a special plan for the competition and I'm coming prepared."
