The German Handball Federation (DHB) has offered 250,000 euros in bonuses for winning a title for the upcoming European Championships for women, as was the case recently for men.

The association announced this shortly before the German opening game on Saturday.

The prize money would be shared across the entire team, plus 20 percent would go to the team behind the team.

Individual regulations apply to national coach Markus Gaugisch and the other coaches.

The EM premiums, which are mainly covered by sponsorship for women and men, are staggered.

The women's team receives 30,000 euros for reaching the main round.

The daily allowances of the national players (depending on the number of international matches up to 100 euros) have also come closer to the level of the men.

Recently there had been rather negative headlines from German women's handball.

DER SPIEGEL had compiled serious allegations of psychological violence against long-time Bundesliga coach André Fuhr and reconstructed years of abuse of power.

The focus was also on the German Handball Federation, which had employed the coach Fuhr in question on a fee basis as U20 national coach for three years until the end of August.

The question of what he knew about the serious allegations had also arisen in the past few days for women's national coach Gaugisch.

The DHB had recently announced an independent review of the allegations.

The current equal pay measures are based on a strategy paper by the AG Frauenhandball, which the DHB Bundestag had already launched in October 2021.

This includes structural reforms in match operations and funding in order to sustainably increase interest in women's handball at all levels in the "decade of handball" proclaimed by the association with higher quality.

The lighthouse project in women's handball is the home world championship in December 2025, which Germany is hosting together with the Netherlands.

The DHB selection is currently preparing for the European Championships with national coach Gaugisch in Tatabanya, Hungary.

The test match against hosts Hungary (5 p.m. / Sportdeutschland.tv) is on Monday.

On Wednesday the dress rehearsal is against Romania (6 p.m. / Sport1), before the European Championship opener against Poland on Saturday (8.30 p.m. / Sportdeutschland.tv) in the Montenegrin capital of Podgorica.
