The friction between FIBA and the EuroLeague is affecting the preparations and integrity of the squads for the upcoming national team window that will be held as part of the world qualifiers, and now the effect is also being felt on the Israeli national team.
Maccabi Tel Aviv officially announced this evening (Wednesday) that it will not release Roman Sorkin from the team's squad for the Israel national team's match against Slovenia, while Yeftah Ziv Rafi Manko will be released.
The reason for the friction ends due to the yellow team's game the night before the national team's game, when they will host the Spanish Barcelona as part of the Euroleague at the Menorah Mivathim Hall.
A few hours later, in the wee hours of Friday, the Israeli national team will play.
The club's official statement reads: "The Israeli national team is very important to the Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball club, so we make every effort to cooperate with the team's needs for the various tasks.
We are proud of the fact that the Israeli players who play for Maccabi are invited to the national team and are a central and important part of it.
We are also aware of the fact that some of the Euroleague teams refrain from releasing players to the national teams, when there are players in the Israel national team who play in Euroleague teams other than Maccabi, who will not be released for the upcoming match window.'
The Yellows also wrote: "As you know, Maccabi Tel Aviv is scheduled to play a Euroleague game against the powerful Barcelona next Thursday evening (October 10), while the next day at noon (October 11) a game for the Israeli national team against Slovenia is scheduled. Currently, we will release two players for this game : Rafi Manko and Petah Ziv.
On Saturday (October 12) Roman Sorkin is also supposed to join the team in order to be on the squad that goes to Sweden for the match that will be held on October 14.
Two days after the team's return to Israel, Maccabi goes to an away game in Belgrade against Partizan.'
