Goran Gogić's boxing career didn't really take off anywhere, but this week he still managed to make headlines - albeit under slightly less favorable circumstances.
The 43-year-old Montenegrin was arrested at the Miami airport and accused of trying to smuggle no less than 22 tons (!) of cocaine, valued at over a billion dollars.
This is one of the largest cocaine arrests made in the history of the United States.
Gogich, who was trying to board a flight to Zurich, was arrested and charged with three counts - each of which could carry a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, and possibly life in prison.
The smuggling attempts were made in 2019, when he and his colleagues tried to transport cocaine from Colombia to Europe, via the United States, in particular using cargo ships in Philadelphia.
Gogich, it was claimed, was at the head of the gang, although his lawyer insisted that he was innocent: "These accusations surprised him. He claims he did nothing, and all in all he came to the United States for a boxing event."
On the way to life imprisonment?

The 43-year-old Montenegrin boxed competitively from 2001 to 2012 and recorded 21 wins and four losses.
His last fight was in the summer of 2012, when he defeated the Romanian Livio Ungurano.
