It is a terrible tragedy that struck a young rugby player in the North of France.
The OMR Marcq Rugby Lille Métropole club announced this Sunday the death of one of its own, Grégoire Boidoux.
The 19-year-old second row had just joined the ranks of the OMR, coming from the Aviron Bayonnais training center, where he played with the Espoirs team.
“The club, deeply moved, sends its sincere condolences to his parents, his brother and sister and his loved ones,” said the OMR in a press release.
The northern club gave some details on the circumstances of the tragedy.
"During the training of the National Hopes which took place Thursday evening November 3, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., at the MEL Stadium in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, Grégoire suffered an unexpected cardiac arrest while participating to an exercise without particular intensity.
He had immediately been taken care of by the emergency services of SDIS 59 and the SAMU who had transferred him to the Emergencies of the CHR of Lille.
He died of natural causes,” OMR says.
“A psychological unit has been set up to support all members of the club who feel the need, the Espoir group and its staff in the first place.
Our teams will observe a minute of applause in honor of Grégoire during the next matches played by the club.
