Olympic marathon runner Luna Chamtai Salpeter, finished in second place today (Sunday) in the prestigious New York Marathon, after setting a result of 2:23:30 hours.

First place was won by Sharon Lokadi from Kenya after she stopped the clocks at 2:23:23 hours after she managed to overtake Luna right before the end.

Chemtai-Salpeter, 33, showed up at the starting line at exactly 8:40 a.m., in Staten Island, which is one of the five boroughs of the Big Apple, near the entrance to the city's harbor, knowing when all eyes would be on her.

Luna arrived as one of the favorites to win, certainly with her resume of 2:17:45 hours, which is the Israeli record she achieved in the Tokyo Marathon two years ago.

At the time of the start, the weather really brightened the face of over 50,000 runners, especially the Israeli who was running the fourth marathon in her career from the Majors round, when even though it was a little cloudy, the temperature gauge showed 19 degrees and only got warmer throughout the morning.

And yet, despite all the favorable conditions, Chemtai Salpeter knew that this time it was not a race for a result, mainly because of its route with quite a few climbs, especially the bridges, these are the fight for the position, where each wanted to cross the finish line in Central Park first.

Chemtai Salpeter's year has been busy and successful, as she opened it with second place in the women's only marathon in Nagoya, Japan, where she achieved an impressive result of 2:18:45 hours.

She later came to the United States to participate in the World Championships in Oregon, where she made history by winning the bronze medal in the marathon.

While everyone thought she would take a break, a short time later Luna traveled to Munich, to participate in the European Championships, but there she settled for the 10,000 meters - when she got on the podium to receive the bronze medal, while improving her Israeli record.
