Six fans who were arrested yesterday (Sunday) outside the Romema Sports Hall in Haifa were removed from the fields for a period of 60 days by the police, not including the World Cup break that starts next week.
This means, the fans will be kept away until the end of February, this following a mass brawl between the Maccabi and Hapoel Haifa fan camps, at the end of the Reds' basketball game last night against Hapoel Jerusalem.
The six were interrogated during the night and the police claim that there may be additional arrests.
There are other fans who have been summoned for questioning and this may also lead to more suspects in the fight.
Several fans suffered minor injuries at the end of the brawl and some were treated on the spot.
Others simply left the place.
All this happens when the Haifa derby between Hapoel and Maccabi will be held on Wednesday at the Sami Ofer Stadium.
In both clubs, what is happening is being followed with concern, while the intelligence units of the police are also monitoring diversions on social networks.
"The fear is of a disaster, unequivocally," said police officials, who were outside the Romema Hall last night, "if it weren't for the quick intervention of security guards and policemen, it could have ended differently."
