The Argentine Supercup "Trofeo de Campeones de la Liga Profesional" between Boca Juniors and Racing Club has ended in a scandal.

The game had to be stopped in extra time when Racing was 2-1 after World Cup referee Facundo Tello issued ten red cards – eight red cards and two yellow-red cards.

The 40-year-old was sent off seven times in extra time because after the late 2-1 lead by Racing's Carlos Alcaraz in the 118th minute and his extensive celebration in front of the Boca fan curve, the pack had formed.

Boca players angrily jumped at the scorer, pulled his ear and threw a ball at him.

Referee Tello then dismissed the goalscorer with a red card, as well as his team-mate Catriel Cabellos.

At Boca, Tello sent four players off in the tumult.

This caused the game to be abandoned because Boca was now only five on the pitch.

Racing was already the winner before the final whistle.

Previously, Tello had already sent two players off in injury time of regular time because they had clashed (90+5).

In the 100th minute, Boca player Alan Varela followed with yellow-red.

The final red card of the evening went to Bocas' Darío Benedetto after the player gestured to the referee that he thought he had been bribed.

A total of seven red cards were distributed to Boca players and three to Racing over the course of the game.

Tello is one of two Argentinian World Cup referees

The "Trofeo de Campeones" is played between the Argentine champions and the cup winners.

Because Boca won both titles, Racing advanced to the final as second in the table.

Tello, who hails from Buenos Aires and has officiated 118 games in Argentina's Primera División, is one of seven World Cup referees from the South American association Conmbebol and, along with Fernando Rapallini, one of two Argentines who will officiate at the World Cup tournament in Qatar.

Back in September, he refereed a game between Trofeo-Champion Racing and Club Atletico Platense, in which he showed three red cards and six yellow cards.
