The sprint race in Brazil lasted just over half an hour but delivered some of the best overtaking moves of the entire season!

São Paulo - The sprint race at the Brazilian Grand Prix didn't last long and was still one of the most exciting races of the 2022 Formula 1 season. Mercedes driver George Russell prevailed in the end.

On the 16th lap, the Briton managed the decisive overtaking manoeuvre, he flew past world champion Max Verstappen.

The Dutchman lost something of the front wing of his Red Bull car.

Verstappen then had to watch as Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) simply passed him.

Red Bull then had to admit that they had made the wrong choice with the medium tires at Verstappen.

Sainz gets a grid penalty for the main race on Sunday because of a new combustion engine and has to give up his second place on the grid to Hamilton.

This is the first time this season that we have a Mercedes front row!

Kevin Magnussen (Haas) surprisingly started the race from pole in the sprint.

He was also able to assert himself against Max Verstappen right after the start, at least for the first two laps.

Verstappen then managed to get past the Dane, but he was unable to hold onto first place.

Meanwhile, the winner Russell hadn't counted on his triumph in the sprint at all: “We thought that we could finish second today.

I was able to attack Max at the beginning but I was sure that once he got his tires up to temperature he would pull away.

There was only one extra point for winning, so I wanted to be careful.”

Nevertheless, the Briton also knows that Verstappen's tire choice in the sprint can be an advantage for Sunday's race: "We all knew that the soft tire was the best.

But if you take it today, you'll have one set less tomorrow.

This is an advantage for Max for tomorrow.”

Forme 1: Schumacher and Vettel improve a few places in the sprint

Sebastian Vettel started the sprint from P13 and was able to prevail against his Aston Martin teammate Lance Stroll as well as Pierre Gasly and Daniel Ricciardo.

The former world champion will start the main race from ninth place, just one place behind sprint pole setter Magnussen.

Mick Schumacher also drove a really good sprint race, shortly after the start he had already moved up from last place to P17.

In the course of the race he was able to make up positions again and again and benefited from a 10-second penalty from Stroll.

This means that he can start from position 12 on the grid on Sunday.

The absolute losers of the sprint: Albon, Stroll and Esteban Ocon.

Alexander Albon suddenly had problems with his car on lap 14, had to park it and was unable to finish the race.

Lance Stroll pushed Vettel off the track so much that he had to continue on the grass.

The Canadian received a ten-second penalty for this.

Ocon had a tough race with teammate Fernando Alonso.

The Frenchman lost part of his front wing and only managed to finish 18th.
