The outstanding year of Frankfurt Eintracht ends with a draw in the Bundesliga.

At FSV Mainz 05, the Europa League winner came to a 1-1 draw after being down 0-1.

The SBU is fourth in the table behind RB Leipzig, SC Freiburg and leaders Bayern Munich in the World Cup break.

Mainz striker Jonathan Burkardt (40th minute) made it 1-0 in the duel on matchday 15.

It was the first goal of the season for the 22-year-old, who had scored eleven goals last season.

The equalizer in the 67th minute came after a fantastic collaboration between DFB returnee Mario Götze and Kolo Muani, who scored the 1-1.

Mainz got off to a better start.

Burkardt had the first good chance, but his close-range shot was deflected and flew just wide to the left (9').

Just a few seconds later Dominik Kohr missed the lead for FSV with a hard shot from about 20 meters.

The Mainz team then resisted with great intensity and hardly allowed the SGE offensive, which was so strong recently, around world championship driver Götze to have any chances.

The reward for the strong Mainz performance followed in the 40th minute.

First, Burkardt failed with a well-placed header due to the strong reflex of Eintracht keeper Kevin Trapp, who was then able to block another shot and thus underlined why he was the third German keeper to go to the World Cup.

In the third attempt, however, the ball was in the goal - the agile Burkardt scored from a short distance from the turn.

On the other hand, there was only more excitement in the 32nd minute: Frankfurt striker Muani scored after an unsuccessful attempt by FSV keeper Robin Zentner to clear the goal, but the attacker was clearly offside after a pass from Götze.

In the second half, SGE increased the pressure and after a dream pass from Götze to Muani, the ball was in the goal.

The national player had his back to the goal when the ball was passed on and still kept an overview, Muani was free after the soulful pass and had an easy game.

Götze almost managed to make it 2-1, Zentner had moved far out of his goal in an attempt to clear and was able to fend off Frankfurt's long-range shot at the last moment.

Frankfurt goes on a Japan tour

After the long World Cup break, the two teams will be back in the Bundesliga on January 21 with the 16th matchday.

However, it will not be completely quiet until then.

Eintracht is going on a tour of Japan next week to play friendlies and promote international marketing.

With Daichi Kamada and Makoto Hasebe, the SGE has two Japanese players in its ranks.

However, Kamada will travel to the World Cup with Japan's national team and will meet the DFB team there (November 23).
