ICE HOCKEY Hannes Sedlmayr rejects a contract extension and slams the door after 13 years in Tölz

Bad Tölz – Hannes Sedlmayr is more than just a member of the Tölzer Löwen in Tölz.

He's a politician.

That's why there has been a lot of movement in the management team of Tölz ice hockey in the past few days when it came to the whereabouts of the Tölz crowd favorite.

The end of the song: "That's it for me with the Tölzer Löwen," said Sedlmayr when he stormed out of the office of the Tölzer Eissportgesellschaft on Wednesday morning.

The 32-year-old then did not want to comment on his farewell in anger over the phone.

Farewell in anger: Sedlmayr no longer a Tölzer lion

It's no secret that the Waakirchner could hardly keep up in the Oberliga after a break of almost two years due to long-Covid.

Sedlmayr has had one goal and two assists in eleven games so far, shooting an average of exactly twice in each game.

Too little – probably also for his own claims.

That's why Löwen boss Ralph Bader - in consultation with trainer Ryan Foster - did not want to extend Sedlmayr's three-month contract, which was negotiated in the summer, until the end of November.

Released him from Monday and also informed the team of his decision.

Chopped logs and a special session

But the final decision, which was ultimately up to the player, and Sedlmayr's annoyed departure were preceded by an angry ECT president, several chopped logs, a special meeting of the TEG advisory board and a slight rowing back by the lion boss.

Because Bader was well aware of "the importance of the 32-year-old in Tölz ice hockey".

But he would have liked to have invested the money “in players who really help us.

Young people are also in the starting blocks.”

Sponsor would have paid salary

However, when the option arose for a certain sponsor from Sedlmayr's circle to pay for a large part of the striker's salary, Bader agreed to make a new, slightly reduced offer for the rest of the season to Sedlmayr.

future open

This was the result of a special advisory board meeting called by ECT boss Hubert Hörmann after pondering the matter while chopping wood.

But Sedlmayr rejected the new offer under the changed conditions - and slammed the door behind him.

Sedlmayr didn't want to think about what he plans to do in the future, whether he will join another premier league or Bayern league club.

Sly Enforcer

The Waakirchner played for the Tölzer Löwen for 13 years and also marched through all the youth teams of EC Bad Tölz.

In the adult division, he completed a good 600 games for the Tölzer, to which he always remained loyal, apart from one season in Duisburg (DEL/Oberliga with Herne) and Ravensburg in the DEL 2.

Sedlmayr not only contributed important goals - including the 2012 championship and the rise of the Tölzer Löwen.

But he also shone as a sly executor with a good overview and clever passes.

Bader: "It's just not enough at the moment"

It was completely uncertain when the contract was signed in the summer whether he could come back there.

"No one could have foreseen how the striker would show up in competitive sports after a two-year break," says Bader.

That's why Sedlmayr shouldn't be surprised that he didn't meet expectations.

"He made an effort, fought, but it's just not enough at the moment," says Bader, who spoke to coach Foster.

Sedlmayr was a long way from the former class after his corona-related forced break.

And now has no chance of getting back there again.

At least not with the Tölzer Löwen.
