Johan Hamel (42) was a Ligue 1 referee. He was assistant referee for Paris SG on Sunday, had refereed Lille-Rennes on November 6.
The Union of Elite Football Referees (SAFE) announced his death on Wednesday morning.
Johan Hamel succumbed to a stroke during training.

Vincent Labrune, the president of the Professional Football League, said in a press release:
"Johan Hamel was an experienced referee who had worked for many seasons on the grounds of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. His sudden disappearance is a terrible shock.
Two years after the disappearance of Sébastien Desiage, his death once again mourns French arbitration.
In the name of all professional football, I send my condolences to Johan's family and loved ones, as well as to SAFE and the FFF”.
