The 2022 World Cup is dividing opinions.

In a survey by IPPEN.MEDIA, this impression is again confirmed.

The most talked about sporting event of all time is upon us.

The 2022 World Cup begins in Qatar on November 20.

We wanted to know from our readers in advance: How are you following the World Cup?

In the IPPEN.MEDIA poll , a total of

people voted by November 16, 8 a.m.

The exact question was: "World Cup 2022 in Qatar: How do you follow the World Cup?" There were three possible answers.

First: "As always: I'm looking forward to football and want to see as much of it as possible - regardless of the discussions."

Second: "Split: I understand the discussions and take a very critical view of the topic, but I will still watch games." And third: "Boycott: I will not watch a single game of this World Cup."

The result of our fan survey was predictable

The result was actually predictable: absolute division in society.

Some fans, around a third (34 percent, 3399 people), want nothing to do with the World Cup in the desert state and have therefore decided to answer "boycott".

Understandable, after all, a number of grievances have been uncovered in the past few weeks and months.

Be it in terms of human rights or working conditions: Qatar itself has provided many reasons for a boycott.

Most recently, the World Cup ambassador caused the next scandal with his homophobic statement.

Nonetheless, there are many people who will watch games.

Most fans (42 percent, 4242 people) opted for the second variant in the survey: "Split: I understand the discussions and see the topic extremely critically, but I will still watch games."

Then there are the absolute football hardliners who will follow the World Cup (2022 World Cup schedule) regardless of the debates and watch as many games as possible.

With 2388 people, this group accounts for the smallest proportion (24 percent).

Nevertheless, like the other two camps, it should be a good reflection of society.

World Cup 2022: Different opinions in Germany

The opinion of the Germans seems to be clear (and at least everyone agrees): There is no clear trend at this World Cup - neither in one direction nor in the other.

The discussions are likely to continue in the coming weeks.

And more importantly, Qatar should continue to be talked about afterwards.

The increased attention may then subsequently lead to conditions of all kinds being improved.
