A wave of influenza is plaguing the ice pirates in Dorfen.

And now the Erding Gladiators are coming.

Dorfen/Erding

– Less than a week after the ice pirates' furious 4:3 home win after extra time against EHC Waldkraiburg, there is again a derby mood in Dorfen's Dr.-Rudolf-Halle this Friday.

At 8 p.m., the ESC puck hunters will welcome the Erding Gladiators.

For many years, the derbies between the two district rivals have been the absolute highlights of every Bavarian league season.

But the omens are anything but good, especially for the people of Dorfen.

After the permanent sickness and injury-related absences since the beginning of the season, the team has now caught the flu, as coach Franz Steer reported almost desperately in an interview with our newspaper.

At least on Wednesday evening he had to make do with a badly decimated team and four junior players in training.

"In addition to the long-term injured Tomas Vrba, whose return is not expected for two weeks at the earliest, I will probably have to do without several regular players on Friday," Steer fears.

"A derby is always something special," says Felix Schütz.

"I've played a lot, including with Cologne against Düsseldorf." The Gladiators team boss also knows: "There's a very special euphoria among the fans, and the boys are also incredibly excited about this game."

The constellation behind the gang shows that it will also be a special game for him for another reason.

Franz Steer was Schütz' trainer with the boys.

Later, under his leadership, TSV Erding reached the final of the German School Championships in Berlin, where Schütz was named the best player of the tournament.

"I really appreciate Franz as a person and I still have regular contact with him," emphasizes the 35-year-old, adding with a laugh: "I think it will be a stranger feeling for Franz than for me.

I'm definitely looking forward to him – and of course to the game.”

Schütz still has to do without the injured Elias Maier and Erik Modlmayr in the squad: "They will probably not start training again until next week." The three Landshut licensed players are not available at the weekend.

"Maybe I'll get one," Schütz hopes.

"But I'll definitely take Tobi Cramer and Ryan Henke from our U20s with me."

Schütz doesn't want to deal with Sunday's home game against Amberg just yet.

"It's also an important game for the fight for eighth place," he emphasizes.

"But now only the derby counts." It's the first of the current season.

The Dorfener are guests on Sunday at 6 p.m. in the ABW Arena in Kempten and will probably feel the "sharp teeth" of the Sharks there.

The Swabians were sixth in the table after twelve games.

Seven wins and five defeats (one most recently in overtime at 4:5 in Koenigsbrunn) are in the books of the Oberallgäu.

Only Schongau (7:3), Miesbach (6:4) and Ulm/Neuulm (6:0) stole the points from US coach Brad Miller's team, who signed ten newcomers and twelve departures.

The Oberallgäu team's hit list includes a 4:3 in Peißenberg, a 7:1 in Buchloe and a 11:3 against a weakened team from Schweinfurt.

Four new strikers alone were brought in from Oberliga club Peiting.

In addition to the two Czech attackers Rostislav Martynek and Dan Przybyla, the 48-.
