A historic achievement at the World Taekwondo Championships: 21-year-old Dana Azran, competing in the weight category over 73 kg, won the silver medal in Guadalajara, Mexico, setting Israel's all-time record achievement in the competition in question, 17 years after Israel's first medal won by Ilan Goldschmidt who won the bronze medal at the World Championships in 2005.
Azran recorded a tremendous day of fights, which included four victories and a dramatic loss in the final. She began her journey in the preliminary stage against an opponent from the Ivory Coast, whom she defeated 2:1 in sets. In the round of 16, she went up against the Frenchwoman ranked 5 in the world and surprised with An important and impressive victory, on the way to the prestigious quarter-finals where she defeated the Mexican Garcia, who is ranked 4th in the world.

In the quarter-finals, Azran overcame the local Paloma Garcia, ranked fourth in the world, and beat her 0:2 after a great battle.
Her extraordinary momentum continued even in the semi-finals, with a close victory over the German Lorena Brandl.
Azran won the first round of the semi-finals after producing more hits without scoring, and in the second round she completed a 0:1 victory on the way to the grand final.
In the final, Azran met the Uzbek Svetlana Uspinova, ranked eighth in the world, for a nerve-wracking battle.
The first round ended in a victory for Azran, but the second ended in a 6:5 loss that dragged the fight to a third and decisive round.
In the end, Ospinova clinched the gold medal after delivering more quality strikes in the third round, completing a 1:2 victory on aggregate.
