The Peißenberg "Miners" showed a top performance at the guest performance in Ulm.
They were solid defensively and only conceded two goals.
But that didn't help anything.

For the fifth time in the past seven games, a single goal made the difference between victory and defeat.
At VfE Ulm/Neu-Ulm a single goal difference over the winner.
In the top game with their neighbors in the table, however, the Peissenbergers were at a disadvantage with 1:2 (1:0, 0:1, 0:1).
Only the result is not satisfactory for Peißenberg
"The league is tight, you saw that again today," said Peißenberg's coach Stefan Ihsen after the tight result, "which unfortunately wasn't satisfactory," reported Ihsen after the intense and good-class game.
"Both teams wanted to play ice hockey," praised Ihsen, who was in agreement with the performance of his men despite the defeat.
"The boys showed a reaction to the Buchloe game that we weren't too happy with.
But unfortunately it wasn't enough," summed up Ihsen.

At the beginning of the game, it was the home side, who started the season very well, who put the "Miners" under a lot of pressure with many offensive actions.
However, the first big chance went to the Peissenbergers.
During a counterattack, Dejan Vogl went unchallenged towards the VfE goal, but failed because of Ulm's goalie David Heckenberger.
The first power play, in which the Peißenbergers had two more men on the ice, then gave them the opening goal through a dust-off by Brett Mecrones (11th).
There were more goals for the 665 spectators - that meant a record crowd this season in the Stadion am Donaubad - but not to be seen in the first round.

Both teams continued to create good opportunities in the middle section.
Peißenberg goalkeeper Korbinian Sertl as well as his opponent Heckenberger were wide awake and could not be overcome.
Sertl only had to reach behind him during a majority game in Ulm when Matteo Miller successfully followed up and scored to make it 1-1 (31st).
It stayed with that one goal until the second break.

The open exchange of blows continued in the final third.
The opening goal was in the air on both sides several times.
Derek Mecrones was unlucky, his shot only landed on the goal post.
Marius Dörner then had more luck at the end, who poked the disc into the net under Sertl to make it 2-1 during another power play by VfE (56th).
The “Miners” then tried everything to equalize.
They took goalie Sertl off the ice.
When Ulm received a penalty in the final minute, the "Miners" had two more field players on the ice.
Twelve seconds before the siren, the Peissenberger supporters who had traveled with them also cheered the supposed equalizer.
However, Heckenberger was able to fend off the puck on the line so that the “Miners” couldn't make it into overtime.
