After his pole, the number 1 signed his 15th success this season, the 35th in his career and the third in a row in the UAE.

Behind, Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez fought for the place of runner-up in the championship and it was the Monegasque who had the last word against the Mexican then he took second place on Sunday ahead of number 2 Red Bull.

A history of strategies

We're not going to lie to each other, this final round of the season will not leave a great memory.

We witnessed a long parade from Max Verstappen, leader almost the entire race, but the battle was interesting behind between Sergio Perez, the two Ferraris and the two Mercedes.

Some were on a one stop strategy (Verstappen, Leclerc, Hamilton) others were on a two stop strategy (Sainz, Russell and Perez).

And the fight started on the first lap with a very tough first Sainz/Hamilton duel.

The Briton took off on the curb and was forced to let the Spaniard through on pain of being penalised.

The beginning of the end for LH44, not in rhythm, and finally forced to retire a few laps from goal for a gearbox problem.

Russell and Sainz dropped by their two-stop strategy, second place was therefore going to be decided between Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc, in the fight for the place of runner-up in the championship.

On a two-stop strategy, the Mexican came out sixth with 25 laps to go and launched a crazy comeback on the Monegasque, second 24 seconds ahead of him but on a single stop and therefore very worn tires.

With seconds, number 11 came up but was hampered several times and in particular by Hamilton then Gasly.

Leclerc was therefore able to keep his course the finish line narrowly and offers himself a great reward after a rather successful season.

Vettel's farewell

This last round in Abu Dhabi was also an opportunity to salute the departure of several drivers.

Tenth, Sebastian Vettel offered himself a great retirement.

The German was widely celebrated throughout the weekend and the three drivers on the podium treated themselves to a series of 'donuts' on the track with the Aston Martin driver.

Ninth, Daniel Ricciardo made a success of his exit with McLaren.

On the other hand, Mick Schumacher and Nicholas Latifi did not shine since they hung on.
