Munich/al-Chaur – Tonight, after a lot of discussion, the whistle kicks off: The 2022 World Cup starts with the opening game of host Qatar against Ecuador.
The game is an indication of the chances of the hosts and Asian champions at the tournament on home soil (November 20th to December 18th).
The game will be played at al-Bayt Stadium in the Qatari coastal city of al-Khour.
The arena, which was specially built for the soccer World Cup, offers space for 60,000 spectators.
At Qatar, the focus is on striker Almoez Ali Abdulla, who was born in Sudan in 1996 but now also has Qatari citizenship.

Between the summer of 2015 and January 2016, the 26-year-old attacker played for Linzer ASK in the Austrian Bundesliga for six months.
He is currently under contract with Al-Duhail SC Doha, like most players in the Qatar national team.
At the 2019 Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates, Almoez Abdulla was top scorer with nine goals and named player of the competition.
