The stoppage time in both halves was also remarkable: referee Claus added 14 minutes each.

While that was understandable in the first half due to the serious injury, there was actually no apparent reason for it in the second half - even if it was "only" ten minutes originally.

However, the use of the VAR increased this to 14 minutes.

The Iranian national team caused a stir before the game by not singing the national anthem.

Iranian television then interrupted the transmission.

There were no further protests.

After 118 minutes of play, England didn't give Iran a chance and celebrated a 6-2 victory.

After a good hour, Claus whistles at half-time.

The Three Lions dominate Iran and deserve a 3-0 lead.

The first half was overshadowed by the violent clash between Iran keeper Beiranvand, who then had to be treated for minutes and finally substituted.

Jahanbakhsh gets a free shot from a nice cross, but nails the ball well over the goal with a volley.

And England won't give up.

The Three Lions reward themselves with the second goal.

After a corner, Harry Maguire puts the ball back in danger where Arsenal player Bukayo Saka puts the ball into the goal with feeling.

Jude Bellingham heads in to make it 1-0.

Then it happens.

The England team combine well down the left and full-back Luke Shaw gets the ball in the middle.

There Jude Bellingham is completely blank and heads the ball into the far corner, which is worth seeing.

32 minutes: And that's where the biggest chance of the game comes from.

Again Maguire comes free to the end - this time with a header, which lands on the crossbar.

That was close.

31 minutes: The English slowly come back into play after the long injury break.

Should a player be substituted due to a head injury, this is possible.

For Iran, this means that five changes are still possible.

8 minutes: And there is already the first big chance for the English.

After a quick free kick, Kane puts the ball sharply in the middle, where Iran keeper Beiranvand rattles violently with his teammate and falls.

Maguire gets a free-standing shot, but only hits the side netting.

Beiranvand is being treated.

That didn't look good at all.

First protest by the Iranian national team.

None of the players in the starting XI sing along to the national anthem.

The national anthem represents the Iranian regime.

In doing so, they remain silent about the insurgency movements in their home country.
