World Cup 2022: Fifa corrects stadium capacities upwards after contradicting figures

2022-11-22T09:55:20.833Z

The World Cup stadiums in Qatar are rarely full, but the number of spectators was even higher than the official capacity. A rounding error according to Fifa. This makes it clear: none of the first four games were sold out.

For two days, figures at the World Cup caused a bit of confusion - at least among those who looked closely: when the audience figures were announced for the first four games in Qatar, a far higher figure was given than the arenas should actually have capacity.

nice calculation?

Manipulation?

Probably not.

Before the World Cup, the world association Fifa had obviously given rounded capacities for all stadiums, this was corrected on Tuesday.

Fifa published the official capacity of the eight World Cup arenas.

If you add up the capacity of all stadiums, there are now 46,231 more seats available - the capacity of another complete stadium.

This makes it clear: There are still tickets for the World Cup, none of the first four games were sold out.

The official capacity of the stadiums at a glance:

Al Bait Stadium:

68,895 instead of 60,000

Al Janub Stadium:

44,325 instead of 40,000

Ahmad bin Ali Stadium

: 45,032 instead of 40,000

Khalifa International Stadium:

45,857 instead of 40,000

Education City Stadium:

44,667 instead of 40,000

Lusail Stadium:

88,966 instead of 80,000

Stadium 974:

44,089 instead of 40,000

Al-Thumama Stadium
