On Instagram, Thomas Helmer pleads for compliance with the rules in Qatar and respect for the culture.
However, the moderator was sharply criticized for this.
Munich – So far, the sporting aspect of the World Cup in Qatar has been in the background.
The issues off the pitch are too explosive.
Should the teams take a stand against the situation in the emirate and accept possible harsh penalties or not?
Former Bayern player and TV presenter Thomas Helmer (57) has a clear opinion, as reported by tz.de.

World Cup 2022: Helmer calls for adhering to the rules in Qatar and respecting the culture
On his Instagram account, the 57-year-old pleads for the World Cup participants to abide by the rules in Qatar.
"It's actually quite simple," he begins.
"When we welcome foreigners in Germany, we want them to follow our rules and respect our culture." He would do the same when he travels to Qatar or other countries.
These words echo those of France captain and international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who justified his decision not to wear the One Love armband.
But that's not all.
“If I 'don't like' something about a country, then I simply 'don't' go there.
What is so difficult to understand about that,” continues Helmer.
The DFB should therefore not have flown to Qatar in the first place.
World Cup 2022: Helmer does not want to comment on the abuses in Qatar
It is self-explanatory that every nation wants its guests to adapt a bit and respect their rules.
Players may find it difficult to do so in a country like Qatar, which is lagging behind in terms of equality and human rights.
So far, however, it has always been necessary to act according to the will of FIFA - and thus of the host country.
Helmer announced on Instagram at the beginning of the year that he would not take part in political discussions about the World Cup.
For him it is "simply about the most beautiful sport in the world".
So he was really looking forward to the tournament.
Explosive: Today's moderator deactivated the comments on his contribution, probably knowing that his views could face a lot of criticism.

The 57-year-old also turns off the comment function for his most recent post.
However, he is not spared the annoyance of football fans.
On Twitter, the former national player is vigorously distributed.
"Thomas Helmer is no longer very crispy either," writes one user.

"Thomas Helmer should be ashamed".
There is even an accusation of racism: "I didn't know that Thomas Helmer was a racist and a hypocrite.
What a stupid and ridiculous statement.” Once again, anyone who makes a political statement about the World Cup in Qatar not only has to think carefully about what they say, but also expect criticism.
