As expected, the English football champions Manchester City have extended the contract with coach Pep Guardiola by two years until 2025.
The club announced this on Wednesday.
Previously, "The Athletic" reported on Tuesday.
Guardiola's current contract only runs until next summer.
"I am very happy to stay at Manchester City for two more years," the 51-year-old Spaniard was quoted as saying.
“It felt special to be here from day one.
I couldn't be in a better place.«
He knows that the next chapter of the club will be "great".
"I still have the feeling that we can achieve more together and that's why I want to stay and keep fighting for trophies," Guardiola continued.
The Spaniard joined Manchester from Bayern Munich in 2016 and since then has won four English championships and one FA Cup with the club.
The team, currently second in the table (32 points) behind Arsenal (37), has not been able to win an international title.
The big goal is to win the Champions League.
The season is currently on hold due to the World Cup in Qatar.
In the past there had always been rumors that star coach Guardiola wanted to leave Manchester, for example to become national coach.
