The fan chants apparently came about because Chile and Peru had sued Ecuador's participation in the tournament ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

He shouldn't have played for Ecuador with that.

After much back and forth, Chile and Peru failed before the International Court of Arbitration for Sport CAS.

Castillo and Ecuador were given permission to play, but three points will be deducted from the national federation FEF in the next World Cup qualifier because of incorrect information about the full-back's date and place of birth.

For this, Ecuador had to pay a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs.

Castillo was ultimately not nominated, but the matter was apparently the cause of the chants at the opening game of the 2022 World Cup.
