Does he get the prize - or not?
Eichenried - "Passionate, playful and at the same time highly professional - this is how C-Trainer Gero Lammel, together with Max Wüst, has been running the holiday camps for six to 14-year-old children and young people at the Golfclub (GC) Munich Eichenried for three years," says GC- Spokeswoman Heidi Rauch.
"But that's exactly how you can describe the 25-year-old Club Champion 2022." Not least because of this, Gero Lammel has now been nominated for the Young Talent Award 2022 of the German Golf Association (DGV) in the category Young Volunteers.
Rauch describes the commitment of the golfer with a handicap of -2.2 as “exemplary – and he himself is a role model for many children and young people”.
Gero Lammel has been a member of GC Munich Eichenried since 2006 – like his whole family.
Mama Claudia Lammel was a youth officer for seven years (2011 to 2018) and is on the board of the Eichenried youth development association.
His younger brother Moritz Lammel now lives in the USA and plays college golf there.
Gero Lammel stayed in Munich as an important pillar of the Eichenrieder men's team, of which he has been captain since this year.
He is also a youth supporter, for example at the training camp for top players, in preparing for training, as a tournament companion and as the leader of the youth adventure camp of the development association.
"His enthusiasm for golf is contagious," said spokeswoman Rauch.
Gero Lammel is the voluntary link between the youth players and the pros at the Eichenried Golf Academy.
"The children love him as a coach, motivator and mentor because he has the right mix," says Rauch.
"He is also a respected trainer with a lot of know-how and a funny buddy, both cool and empathetic." And she adds: "The sports management student sometimes carries the kids piggyback or jumps with them in Eichenried's swimming pond."
Exercise and team building in nature are very important at the camps of the GC Munich Eichenried, the concept of which Gero Lammel worked out together with Wüst.
In addition to sporting aspects, the further development of the social skills of the children and young people also plays an important role.
“The little ones learn from the big ones and make a giant leap in their independence,” Rauch knows.
"Gero's tact and the appreciation he shows the young players are unique."
At the DGV Youth Golf Symposium from November 24th to 26th, after short presentations by the three nominees, online voting by the participants will decide who will receive the prize.
