The repression continues against opponents of the regime in Iran, a country immersed for more than two months in a protest movement since the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurd, who died three days after her arrest by the vice police in Tehran for allegedly violating the strict dress code for women in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This Thursday, it is a famous local footballer who was arrested by the Iranian authorities: Voria Ghafouri, striker of Foolad FC in Iranian D1, accused of having "insulted and tarnished the reputation of the national team and of having engaged in propaganda" against the state, said the Iranian news agency Fars.
He was arrested after a training session for his team, based in Ahvaz in the province of Khuzestan, by decision of the Judicial Authority, according to the same source.
The 35-year-old footballer from Sanandaj, the capital of the province of Iranian Kurdistan, posted a photo on his Instagram account wearing traditional Kurdish clothing.

Former Iranian international (26 caps) and captain of Esteghlal, the country's most celebrated team, he was forced to leave in July because of his repeated criticism of the authorities.
