World Cup 2022: England fans banned from dressing up as Crusaders

2022-11-24T15:44:06.164Z

English supporters were reportedly refused their Crusader disguise at the entrance to the stadium before England-Iran.

No armbands, and no Crusader costumes either.

A video broadcast by English journalist Robert Carter shows that English fans were refused entry to the stadium before England-Iran.

The reason: a cardboard sword and shield in addition to the cross of Saint George.

An outfit in bad taste since it strangely recalls the outfit of the knights of the Crusades (military expeditions around the 11th century of Western Christians to recover the holy places from the hands of the Muslims).

A disguise that can be seen as a provocation in Qatar.

The crusades were extremely violent on the local populations of the time.

The organization fighting against all discrimination in football Kick Out had however warned about these outfits: “We advise fans who attend World Cup matches that certain clothing, such as costumes representing knights or crusaders , may not be welcome in Qatar and other Muslim countries.

»

The association also encourages people to follow the "travel advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued before the tournament".

Among these are: “Fans should familiarize themselves with local customs, and we encourage fans to take this approach.

»

On the video posted on Twitter, we see the disguised supporters being turned away from the entrance to the stadium, without knowing if they were able to return without their outfit afterwards.

England continues its World Cup.

After their victory against Iran (6-2), the Three Lions face for their second match the United States, this Friday, at 8 p.m.
