Frustration at Maccabi Tel Aviv: "We regret this loss, the star is not a playoff team" - voila! sport

After a loss in Belgrade and when they are still without an away win, the Yellows are disappointed, waiting for Hilliard, cheering for Sorkin and knowing that Baldwin has a big part in the loss. Adams will leave in a month?

1. Big disappointment in Maccabi Tel Aviv after the loss yesterday (Thursday) 69:68 to Red Star Belgrade in Serbia.

The Yellows recorded their fourth Euroleague loss in four games away from Menora Hall, and slipped to a balance of five wins against five losses, in the middle of the table, missing an opportunity to take another step towards the top.

After 10 weak defensive minutes, in which they conceded 27 points, Maccabi Tel Aviv started to defend much better.

She held the Red Star to 10 points in the next 13 minutes, but offensively was far from impressive, with apart from Lorenzo Brown and Roman Sorkin who finished with 23 and 16 points respectively, no other player performed offensively.

By the time Maccabi managed to come back, the star players knew how to escape, and Vansaf's comeback led by Brown in the decisive moments was stopped when the guard missed a three at the buzzer.

"It's a tough loss, there was a point towards the end of the game that decided it where we didn't make some comfortable shots and they made those shots," concluded Josh Niebo who scored 10 points, most of them in the last quarter, "It was a great atmosphere for a basketball game, it's always fun to play in an atmosphere like that".

Austin Hollins added: "We battled at the end of the game to come back, cut the deficit to just one point. You have to give them credit, they hit big shots, made moves to win the game. Things didn't go our way, we couldn't turn it around. We really wanted to win , we'll go back home, watch a video and fix things. The atmosphere here is always special, I played here and I know what the atmosphere is like here, it gives the home team the shot of encouragement like we get at home."

Maccabi landed late at night in Tel Aviv and will begin preparations this weekend for the league match against Hapoel Jerusalem on Sunday (20:15).

2. The disappointment in Maccabi Tel Aviv from yesterday's loss is great for two reasons.

The first reason is the desire of the yellows to finally record an away victory that will stop the streak of disappointments outside the Menorah Hall.

The second reason is the fact that the Red Star is not considered one of the lions of the continent, and an away game against them is definitely a game that Maccabi can win.

"We didn't play against a big team, absolutely not," said one of the team members during the evening, "Red Star is not a playoff team, and we will regret this loss as much as we regretted the loss to Partizan. We played a weak game, we really wanted to, but between the desire and the execution was A big gap."

Coach Oded Ketch said several times before the away games this season that the team has a problem of bringing energy that they get from the crowd at Menorah Hall, and they fail to generate the same energy in the away games as well.

However, it is difficult to dismiss the Maccabi players' lack of energy as the main reason for the losses, and it is possible to point to the professional problems, such as another weak shooting night, when apart from Lorenzo Brown, the players hit only two three-pointers from 14 attempts.

3. After a good season, Wade Baldwin recorded a very weak game.

The guard provided 6 points on 3 of 11 from the field, lost 6 balls, but perhaps the most significant statistic about him is the amount of minutes in such a weak evening - 30 minutes and 42 seconds.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Oded Ketch chose to go to the lineup without Baldwin when it was already clear that he was out of the game, but he brought him back in the decisive moments, and in a significant attack half a minute to the end, he lost a ball in a careless manner, which caused Maccabi to get a very difficult shot afterwards to try and win the game.

Maccabi explained that, as in the case of Lorenzo Brown, Ketch goes with his stars even on less good nights, and therefore chose to bring Baldwin, whom he trusts, back to the field.

At the same time, the fact that Baldwin carried the ball on the last move and not Brown was a mistake.

Maccabi also stated that Baldwin had difficulty functioning in the game professionally and that "it's a bit difficult for him to shake off bad plays during the game," according to one of the club's members, "He is an excellent player, but sometimes forces things or to the other side, takes too little on himself. Over time he He will find the balance within the group."

4. If Maccabi doesn't have a big concern when it comes to Baldwin, as in Brown's weak games, the same is not true for Darren Hilliard and Jaylen Adams.

The first arrived at Hall Menorah with great fanfare, was supposed to become one of the main players in the current season, but then he got injured, was absent for a month, and upon his return has trouble finding himself.

Yesterday he started again in the top five but didn't score even when he was completely alone.

"We need Darren, there's no doubt," admitted a senior in the system during the last week.

Maccabi are sure that Hilliard will recover and they are not putting pressure on him, at the same time admitting that: "We lack another person who will take on this type of games, and his good ability last night could have arranged the victory for us."

Adams, on the other hand, was unable to enter Maccabi's system, except for one good game in the league, and the fact that Austin Hollins buys himself more and more opportunities through the defense makes his life more difficult.

Adams and Maccabi have an exit option in about a month, and if his position within the team does not improve significantly, a breakup is possible at the initiative of one of the parties.

5. Besides the great performance of Lorenzo Brown, who also provided an excellent game was Roman Sorkin who recorded a career record in the Euroleague with 16 points, to which he added 6 rebounds.

Sorkin played 24 minutes, the most except for Brown and Baldwin, was very active and proved that the minutes he gets are by merit and not by grace.

As we published about a month ago, Maccabi plans to close the extension of Sorkin's contract even before the end of the current season and not drag him into the summer.

The team is sure that it will not be a problem to keep him in yellow for several years, and we also receive positive feedback from the player and his surroundings about the satisfaction with his progress within the team and in the Euroleague.
